VEST System One (VSOne)

Our new "Virtual Endoscopic Surgery Training" (VEST) system VSOne was developed within the framework of the joint TT-project (technology transfer) "LAParoscopy-SIMulator" (internal project name, not a product name) by the partners Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe / Institut für Angewandte Informatik (research group: "VR-Systems/Realtime-Simulation" - contact: Dr. Uwe Kühnapfel ) and the company "Select IT VEST Systems AG" / Bremen.

Our VSOne system is commercially available through "Select IT VEST Systems AG".

VSOne was presented for the first time at the "3rd Practical Tutorial for Visceral Surgery", organized by our medical partner Prof.Dr.med. Heinz J. Buhr from Universitätsklinikum Benjamin Franklin/Berlin and a large team of tutors for endoscopic visceral surgery during June 23-30, 2001, in Rostock/Warnemünde, Germany. Alltogether 108 trainees participated in the workshop. A scientific evaluation of the VSOne system was performed with volunteers during the workshop, regarding the "training value" of a VR-technology based training system. The results look very promising and will be published later this year within the medical scientific community. Questionnaire feedbacks from the participants are available at our partner site.
